Weekly Athletic Round Up – May 7

Lacrosse

Baseball
Due to rain, both of the baseball team’s games this past week were rescheduled to later dates. The team will travel to Berwick and Lexington Christian Academy this week for league games.

Softball
This past week the softball team beat Concord Academy 20-8. Each player got on base and scored to contribute the strong team performance. The girls then travelled to Winsor on Friday where they lost to a strong team. This week, the team host two EIL games against Lexington Christian Academy and Bancroft.

Boys Lacrosse
The Beaver lacrosse program had a busy week with three competitions. On Monday, the team beat Lexington Christian Academy 15-6 in a very important league game. Junior attackman Dom Smith had a dominating performance with 6 goals and 3 assists on the day. On Wednesday, Beaver defended their home turf against “class A” Worcester Academy with a 13-7 victory. Charlie Segar, led the offensive charge with 4 goals and 3 assists. Saturday, the Beaver program ran into powerhouse Dexter, ranked 8th in New England by laxpower.com. The boys competed well but could not prevent the talented home team from gaining an edge on the scoreboard. With an overall record of 5-3, the team looks to resume their winning ways against league opponent Bancroft on Monday afternoon.

Girls Lacrosse
The girls had three games this week against Bancroft School, Concord Academy and Winsor School. They came out with a 21-13 win against Bancroft, 17-10 win against Concord, and 16-5 loss against Winsor. Junior Captain Tess Anderson scored 13 goals throughout the week, Senior Captain Carly Furr scored 7 goals and contributed 7 assists and Sophomore Caroline Hill had 8 goals. Riley Nelson also did a great job causing turnovers in Beaver’s favor, and Alex Hartman played consistently strong as goalie saving more than 50 percent of the shots on goal.This week the girls have two challenges against Berwick Academy and Gann Academy.

Boys Tennis
Due to a rainy week in Chestnut Hill, Boys Varsity Tennis only competed in one of three scheduled matches this week. On Tuesday, the Beaver squad bested Berwick 5-0. TJ Moor continued an undefeated season at 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Kris Bronner and Jay Rodman produced similar wins at 2 and 3 singles. Due to injury, junior starter Jon Marsh sat out, pushing Adam Goodman and Gabe Belkind up to the 1 doubles position where they showed veteran calm. In 2nd doubles, Valerian Planche and Hunter Flint paired up for the first time all season securing a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

This win boosts the Beaver team to a 4-0 league record. The squad sets their sight on Landmark and Concord next week. Concord boasts a 4-0 conference record as well.

Girls Tennis
The girls varsity tennis team took home its 8th win of the season this past week with a solid win over Gann Academy. The much anticipated league battle with Winsor was not played on Friday due to rain. The match has been rescheduled for Monday, May 7 at Longwood.

Ultimate Frisbee
The Beaver ultimate frisbee team took home its first win of the season this past week with a 11-6 triumph over BU Academy. Daniel Tsui ‘14 led the charge with a commanding offensive and defensive performance. The ultimate team closed out the week with a loss to Cambridge School of Weston to see their record slip to 1-6. They will look to regroup on Wednesday when they travel to Concord Academy. The two teams went back and forth earlier in the season in a very tight game that saw Concord win.
