Each year, Beaver presents awards to recognize and honor the outstanding accomplishments and service of our alumni. Below are this year’s Alumni Award recipients.


bruceDISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD
Bruce Berkowitz ’76
Bruce founded Fairholme Capital Management in 1997. Formerly, he was a senior portfolio manager at Lehman Brothers Holdings and a managing director of Smith Barney. He is featured regularly in Forbes, US News & World Report, and other media outlets for his unique investing philosophies – which he attributes to his days as a part-time bookie in Chelsea during high school. In addition, Berkowitz and his wife are dedicated philanthropists in the Miami area, especially committed to enhancing education.


nelsojnDRISCOLL AWARD FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Nelson de Witt ’00
Nelson is a Boston-based documentary filmmaker. As one of El Salvador’s “disappeared children”, Nelson is committed to telling the story of El Salvador’s Civil War through his work, and he is currently working on a film inspired by his childhood.

 

rebeccaYOUNG ALUMNI AWARD
Rebecca Roth Gullo ’95
Rebecca is a top Boston restaurateur, owning three restaurants in the South End with business partner Seth Yaffe – The Gallows, Blackbird Donuts, and Banyan Bar + Refuge. Her restaurants have received critical acclaim and rave reviews, and she has been featured in the New York Times, The Boston Globe, Zagat, and many other local newspapers and media outlets. She lives in the South End with her husband and two daughters.
